Cubs @ Goetre Villa July 2024
Goetre Villa hosted the Aberaeron and New Quay Cubs for the night on the 13th July 2024. Once the cubs had pitched their tents they headed upto the woodland to build dens, just as the heavens opened. Whilst the trees gave some protection from the rain the cubs had a go at collecting dead and cut wood for their dens. Several cubs got to see a slow worm found on the track hiding under some equipment.
The rain sent us back to camp where we made paracord woggles and cooked potatoes and chocolate bananas in the embers, and roasted marshmallows on sticks (as well as having sausages and burgers).
The following morning was bright and pleasant so after relighting the fire with no matches! and cooking bacon on the fire for bacon sarnies, the cubs voted to go back to the woods. They spent hours in the woods refining and improving the dens from yesterday. Before heading back for lunch and whittling wands from the hazel “harvested” that morning.
As most of the cubs hadn’t been to Goetre Villa before it was a short camp but they still managed to earn their backwoods cooking badge, a nights away badge and most of the elements to their outdoors challenge badge. They all had a blast and will be back!
